Capstone Assessment

Move from attendance to demonstrated GUARD competence.

The capstone asks students to complete a full Decision Record, evidence trail, affected-people analysis, disclosure or escalation decision and short reflection.

Capstone case v1: the alarming AI news post

A student receives an AI-generated-looking post claiming that the school will close because of a health emergency. The post includes a realistic image, an unnamed source and urgent instructions to forward it immediately.

GUARD stageStudent must demonstrate
G - GoalDefine whether the goal is safety, speed, attention, verification or responsible communication.
U - LimitsIdentify why a fluent, urgent, image-rich message may still be unreliable.
A - EvidenceIdentify official, independent and school-level verification sources.
R - PeopleConsider panic, reputational harm, privacy, younger students and families.
D - DecisionChoose whether to verify, stop, reject forwarding, disclose uncertainty or escalate.

Submission

  • Completed GUARD Decision Record
  • Evidence trail
  • Affected people analysis
  • Final decision
  • Disclosure or escalation statement
  • 150-250 word reflection

Strong outcomes

Strong students may decide not to forward, preserve the message privately, verify through official channels and alert a responsible adult or school coordinator.

GUARD must not reward speed over caution when harm could spread.
